WoSJ Close-Up; Ninja La Silla

E-mail Print PDF

MG 2436It is once again time to take a closer look at one of our favorite horses - this time: Ninja La Silla. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.

MG 2421Ninja La Silla's sire is the famous Guidam, father to 35 Grand Prix and international showjumpers. MG 2431Rolf and Ninja La Silla have been a pair since 2006, and on their way they have picked up some big wins. MG 3124The KWPN gelding was bred at Stoeterij van Uitert-Huijsmans in Esbeek, the Netherlands. MG 3802The name of Ninja’s mother was Olympica. Fittingly she bred a true champion! MG 3805Ninja La Silla is the reigning European Champion. Last year he won the championship in Madrid together with Rolf. MG 4877 Ninja La Silla is also an Olympic medalist; in 2008 he won silver in Hong Kong. MG 4881After Kentucky in 2010, the plan for Ninja was to not jump any more championships. But he turned out to be in great shape, and ahead of Madrid Rolf described him as “almost better than he’s ever been”. Rolf surely didn’t know how right he will be. MG 4884Rolf’s prediction to WoSJ ahead of his and Ninja’s appearance at the Europeans last year was; “Me… I would say in the top three or seven or eight. I really don’t want to be fourth!” They weren’t! MG 4886Ninja La Silla is shy and not very fond of strangers. MG 5138-redNinja La Silla waiting for the last class at the Europeans in Madrid - he looks like a winner already! MG 5143Ninja La Silla had his 17th birthday on the 24 of May. MG 5145Ninja La Silla is flying over the very last big oxer at the Europeans in Madrid. MG 6199The little gelding is used to jump fences bigger than himself!
