Rich Fellers on his jump-off and if he thought he would be able to beat Steve’s time; “Steve was very fast. I thought he would take 7 strides to the last fence, but then he went on 8. I know my horse very well. I know he is fast and I trusted that I could do the same track and the same strides as Steve - and I was lucky!”
Steve on his jump-off and his plans going in as number one; “My horse is also very fast. I hoped that even without taking the last risks that it would be enough. My plan was to make a good stride to the triplebar and then do 7 strides to the last fence. Unfortunately that plan didn’t work out today.”
Pius on the question whether it was nervousness that caused Carlina to take down a fence in the second round; “It’s not a question of being nervous. Carlina gets a little bit hot when she does rounds like this. She has to learn, and she will.”
Rich on how the course designer has solved his tasks this week; "The course designer did a world class job from the first day. It has been safe. No horses have lost their heart or courage here, but it has been difficult and great courses all week."
Rich on his winning horse Flexible; “He’s had a long winter break and was not quite at his peak at the selection trials. But he has come in top top form this week. He will compete again at the trials in California in ten days, and also at Spruce Meadows.”
“Flexible was kind of wild and used to kick out and hurt his hind legs all the time. He has gradually mellowed over the years though. He is like a pet. I love him and he loves me!”
Rich on the owners of Flexible; "Unfortunately they couldn’t be here as Mr Chapman got an injury and decided to not go. But I got him a Rolex!”
