Amy Inglis and Jessica Mendoza are seasoned veterans, and 15 year old Inglis jumped double-clear in the Nations Cup at Fontainebleau in April with her 11 year old Quick Star gelding, Nils d’Hurl Vent, while 16 year old Mendoza, who also took individual bronze last summer, was second in the Grand Prix at Moorsele (BEL) with the 14 year old Tixylix who has enjoyed something of a stellar career.  Millie Allen won the first British trial with the 9 year old bay mare Song Girl. The French venue was a familiar one for this partnership who won the Grand Prix there in the spring and who were second in the Grand Prix, and on the winning Nations Cup team, at Hagen (GER) last month.  The British squad was rounded up by 15 year old Alex Chitty and the 10 year old mare Amilie JR Z.

Ten riders made it to the jump-off and there it was the line to the combination that was the big question. The first riders went inside the second jump to the combination, but then got faults at one or two of the elements in the combination. The riders in the middle part of the class changed their plan and went outside the jump to get a better line, and two of the riders then cleared the course - Angel Dinev Nyagolov with Donkosak (Drosselklang x Watzmann) and Andreas Ripke with Edelgaard´s Saqini (Quantum x Cassini).

pilar-neuage-bleuPilar Cordon and Nuage Bleu have been disqualified from the European Championship in Madrid. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. The Spanish rider Pilar Lucrecia Cordon has according to cavadeos.com been disqualified from the European Championships where she finished in 22nd on Nuage Bleu. The reason for the disqualification is that the horse tested positive on the prohibited substance Mepivacaine (click here to access information about the substance). The disqualification does not affect the Spanish team in any way as they did not qualify for the Olympics during the Europeans. The disqualification has also been confirmed to WoSJ by Spanish sources that have been in contact with the Spanish chef d’equipe.

The USA’s Christine McCrea on Romantovich Take One swept to a fifth clear round to claim the individual gold medal in jumping at the Pan American Games Saturday, but the U.S. missed the opportunity for an historic sweep after taking team gold two days earlier. Christine of East Windsor, Connecticut and the 11-year-old Dutch warmblood gelding made it look easy while Beezie Madden of Cazenovia, New York, and Coral Reef Via Volo incurred a single time fault, it was 7/100ths of a second, and dropped from the lead they had held since the beginning of these championships to take silver.

The United States is in a position to create more history after claiming team gold at the Pan American Games, with three of its combinations filling the top three places ahead of the individual final Saturday. No nation has ever swept all the jumping medals and the last time one country took the team and individual gold was in 1987 by Canada and the legendary Ian Millar who is competing at these Games and looking to add to his record of eight Pan Am medals.
